Hızır Orucu (Khidr Fasting) in Alevism
Taken from the text book of religion in Turkey, this page describes the three days nawafil/extra fasting in Alevi İslam. To summarise the texts, the fasting is the reemactment of the Verses of Abrar (Surah al Insan , verses 8 through 11. Where Ahlulbayt fasts for three days and shares their iftaar with the needy and orphans. The difference is that, Alevi believe the visitor who knocked the door of Ahlulbayt for three days was Prophet Khidr (a.s),hence the name Khidr Fasting. Anyway, Alevis in Turkey fast for extra three consequtive days to commemorate the event about Ahlulbayt which is mentioned in Surah al Insan.
